Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. There is an update today about Mr. Most Important Research, after his visit last Friday. First of all, he used all the guilt tripping necessary getting the president to see things his way by commuting to our campus all the way from home, even asking me by text on clarifications as to what and where to ride, when in fact I had given them all in a previous email I sent when he was supposed to have gone here by public transport, that he didn’t print out and use. Next, even though the president’s secretary said there may be a slot for him at 9am, she actually didn’t get to call on him until 1230pm, which added to the guilt factor. I was in the media lab, and I told the college secretary not to say where I was, but apparently the president’s secretary knew or found out for him, so I was surprised when he showed up at the door of our general planning of activities venue. And of course I had to attend to him even though I had previous commitments, even having to arrange telling the engineering lab technician to open the faculty room for him to wait in for the president’s secretary’s call. He sent an inquiring text message again yesterday afternoon, followed by a call, asking if it was set up already, when in fact I had just sent out the request letters in the morning and left the personnel talking about the aspects of it. And I left the school at 2pm, so if they had tried to follow up I would not have been there. His queries were at around 4pm, and I didn’t answer of course, because there’s no update. He should know that when he receives no work from me, that there is nothing to report, and that his persisting to call me about it doesn’t make it go any faster. In fact, maybe next time I have the misfortune of answering him, I will say that there are vengeful people who work here that pace through the task slower when you bug them more about your request, just to get you to stop asking. It does, after all, smack of lack of trust and reliance to keep pestering like that, and if he does it some more I will give him the local extension of the ITC and the physical facilities so he can go bug them himself. Session 2159 doesn’t get when people stop wanting to talk to him. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
