2008-07-07 11:49 AM P/E/A: At Such A Young Age, They Already Need Liquor to Give Themselves the Illusion of Their Own Self Worth Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I just asked my students in my energy conversion class, of whom five are former student council officers, to pass me their comments about last week's acquaintance party and recruitment fair. They were willing, so I guess we will have a lot to digest next meeting. Maybe the student council officers will appreciate more the value of the money they are willing to spend on these events if they really work hard for the fundraising activities beforehand, which I know they haven't been doing, or at least been doing only for their own spendings, like last school year's celebratory party for all the officers. There were no raffles or even "Bring Me" prizes, which would have enlivened the proceedings somewhat with the freshmen really participating. The large posters, which were a waste of space with only about 20% lettering, could have listed down the activities that would entice more people to join, but no, that would mean more preparation on their part, so rather they just wing it. I hope they don't rate the success of the party on the fact that there were about twenty to thirty people dancing on the floor at the end, of which only around half were actually freshmen. That means only around ten to fifteen freshmen stayed till the very end to dance, then the organizers decided to waste the purified water bought for the occasion by throwing it over the dancers. I hope they realize how lame it all was, particularly since there's no alcohol around to dull the senses, and I hope they don't make that into the biggest excuse of why the party sucked. Alcoholic beverage, which is only possible if the party is held off campus and where strangers could show up, should not be a requirement for a great and enjoyable student activity. Session 2247 will again stop at two consecutive posts about one rantful occurrence. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
