2008-09-12 7:34 AM A/P: Behind the Chalkboard Talk Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Yet another reply to our email "conversation". But shorter this time. The Manila campus had to revamp a lot of their programs after they got a reality check of the times in 2004 or thereabouts where they missed their projected freshman enrollment by 800 students. And since apparently they already spent the expected revenue, they had to compensate by taking money from other channels, which included regularizing those teachers who had been promised permanency if they finished their masters degree, including Melanie. What's sad is that she just graduated the term before, and was left hanging. In his start of school year speech that time, the brother president attributed it to the migration of those who could afford their tuition. So there was also a reevaluation of program offerings in all colleges, discontinuing those considered not to be popular and leaning towards those that according to a feasibility study get more students, but without having to resort to nursing, care-giving, medical transcription or call center training. The outgoing guidance counselor was a "she". For the past year and a half she was unavailable to the students, having spent most of her time either in the faculty room using the net (since she complained that she did not have a connection in her office) or fetching her child in the grade school or accompanying him to eat. In the renewal board meeting where her contract was decided to allow to expire, the brother president actually went as far as to say that since she did not make the effort to do her job more effectively for almost two years, she was, in fact, "stealing" from the school whenever she drew her salary. This is all in confidence though, so I can't say anything when her press release to the rest of the faculty is that she "decided to resign", after one term as full time faculty that she "decided" she wanted instead of being guidance counselor. Using an environmental analogy, it's like trimming off the dead branches from the tree. Session 2357 thought it would be shorter than this. Class dismissed.
