2008-11-26 3:25 PM The Faculty Benefit Bluff Continues Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I arrived at the faculty meeting yesterday at what I thought was the tail end of the discussion, when in fact it lasted for an hour and five minutes more with the brother president doing most of the talking. But it was clear that the other faculty members had already had their say on the matter, the same points they made during the clandestine meeting that he still somehow knew about from some source, from the phrases the brother kept repeating such as wanting to give the benefits. I believe he was also forced to show his hand about changing the faculty loading just to be able to give the benefits, increasing them per faculty. At least because of that (which I thought was a mistake as it brought about a new round of questions after initial murmurs) slacker co-teacher also started asking questions which showed his position. He asked if it is only when a teacher is going on leave that there would be increase in load, because if it is "lifetime" (his words) then he is opposed to it. At that point on of the directors whose leave was denied looked at him and said flatly, "Thank you for your support, brother in arms." So at least it's obvious now that he wants more benefits not at the cost of more work. As if he's at the height of productivity right now. @@ Another somewhat high point of that meeting was that the marketing director was supposed to speak, but did not have time which means another meeting for his report has to be scheduled. But he did mention that evaluation of the college weeks will commence starting from the recently concluded business administration week. Now THAT I'm looking forward to, because how could it draw outsiders when they couldn't even draw their own students to their fair. He also said that general assessment of the students right now are that they are "brats", which may be said to be a reflection of the entire generation and not something we could do anything about besides drastically curbing enrollment qualifications. Session 2465 really must reupholdster current education practices if the qualifier is how much students are learning and not enrollment statistics. Class dismissed.
