2009-01-06 9:19 PM Overdoing Accomplished Tasks to Receive Less Flak? Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I used to pride myself in not being too meticulous with my students in drilling in them what my instructions are. I don’t ask them to repeat them after I’ve given them. Sometimes though, mere verbal procedures aren’t enough, and there’s a temptation to have to get the students written acceptance of everything academic related. This can be from a commitment letter from a student who has been warned that he or she is nearing the limit of failure due to absences in a class and that he will not be absent anymore in the future sessions, to a signed statement saying that the student has read and understood the syllabus given at the start of the term and will abide by them and not question if they get a grade of zero from not giving the requirements, including attendance. The latter one, in fact, I’m thinking of giving tomorrow on the astronomy lab first meeting. Besides that, there is also seems to be a need for these after what happened today. One of the projects of the information and special events director of the school (who is within the president’s office) is to sell baller bands to the students. Part of the proceeds will go to the district, but the students are allowed a mark up of ten pesos for their own funds. Yesterday the director asked me for a report on the selling. Today I saw the college student council secretary, and told her to print a report. Instead what she did was to give all the money earned to the office of student affairs secretary. This money we now had to deposit with the accounting office, but apparently, since the money given was divisible by fifty but not by forty, they hadn’t gotten their cut out of it yet. Since they still have several pieces left to sell, that means they will now have to get their cut from that part of the money. It’s an additional calculation from their part, because I don’t know if the accounting office has been instructed to put part of the money given to the student council’s fund. I assume they don’t want that additional work on their part. Session 2497 at least doesn’t have a negative balance to turn over. Class dismissed.
