2009-01-29 12:59 PM Donning A New Hat, Maybe Taking Off An Old One Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. As promised yesterday, below is what I originally wrote for posting, that has not been released until today. The world is literally crumbling around us, at least, apparently for this week. Last Monday was the start of the engineering week celebration. Besides the director of the school not being there (there was a meet scheduled at the same time for all permanent faculty members) I wasn't there because of the operations council. That makes this the third engineering week celebration that I wasn't able to attend. The outdoor science interaction in the afternoon was moved from the football field to the quadrangle, then to the central lobby because of the strong winds. Who would have thought that there would be strong winds on an activity set out of doors? Yesterday was the open lab. Again, the students didn't market it properly, and I was the one who talked to the grade school and high school science teachers about allowing their students to visit. At the same time, most of the exhibits were the old ones, and even some of the new ones were not there because the batch who made them are now on their on-the-job training. So why was this scheduled again on a term when one fourth of the population isn't here? The minesweeper and Sudoku contests were also not properly arranged, with people asking me at the last minute about the rules, when I thought there were already people who had set up the mechanics for that, or were assigned to during the prep meets. I was also surprised that I was not consulted about the "Solving Sudoku using Spreadsheets" talk I said I was going to give, that they set it on a day when I had another commitment somewhere else that I now have to be late for. It's bad enough that even though I gave the title of the talk several times, that what was written on the poster was just "cool seminar by sir ___ ___". End here. Forgot to mention that yesterday was a big day, this journal turned six and started grade school. Session 2535 was also a big day in that a new venture was hurdled in life. Class dismissed.
