Mood: Comparing Indiscriminately Read/Post Comments (0) |
2009-03-04 2:37 PM Peeking Into Another Line of Work Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I already said in the student accessible version that I’m alone in the astronomy lab today. What else happened as that the promoters of the two bands that are performing on Friday all showed up (thankfully at 11am, so my lab class was already finished) for an ocular inspection of the concert venue for possible kinks. What I hesitated with was when the organizers asked for my mobile phone number, in case of last minute concerns, they said. I already have too many strangers calling my phone as it is that I can't ignore (like before), but at least my consolation is that I'm third in line to be called if the first two don't answer. It was also such a relief that these people were saying that the performers for Friday are still young people and therefore don't have that many quirks yet. I'm comparing this of course to the exaggerated (at least I hope) eccentricities of bands performing as seen in such movies as "This is Spinal Tap" and "Wayne's World". What we all have to accept is that even though the gigs are at 9pm to 11pm (maybe even midnight) the bands still can't hang around afterwards because they have other commitments somewhere else. Understandably, weekends are their busiest time. And it's reassuring that the organizers are already thinking of plans for next year, particularly when they saw how unique and souvenir-worthy our tickets are. They already said they're planning to use something similar for the concerts of the mega star in the US, since locally, they have to abide by the computer printed releases of the ticket net, which needs standard ticket layouts. I was also thankful that the technical committee was able to find a way to make sure that the sound system arrangement for the band fest and for the professional performers would not have to be reset in the middle of the event for half an hour. All they said was that they would just bring two equalizers with predetermined settings. Yeah, all problems have easy solutions if you have the money or the materials to spare. Session 2585 doesn't want to play the name dropping game with the workers in the entertainment field, or want to appear star struck. Class dismissed.
