Employment As Seen By Some As A Right

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

I'm learning another line that I've never even come close to in all my years of working for an employer.

Let's say we have this employee. He has to go home to the province at the text message of his brother that someone they call 'uncle', who helped raise them, may be near dying.

The boss agrees. The 'relative' lives, and a week or so later, the employee indicates wanting to return to work, but doesn't have the money for the long commute.

The boss, having another full time job himself, replies, "We'll see." After all, the boss' own payday is several days away. The employee replies, "Okay".

Before payday rolls in, the employee now starts sending messages to another former employee saying the boss doesn't want him back anymore because there has been no reply.

Of course this gets back to the boss, even though there is every intention to loan the money for the fare (twice the amount, in fact, just so the employee can leave something for his parents) the boss is a little irked by this impatience.

This irritation is voiced to the supervisor. The day the money is supposed to be wired over, the employee starts asking the boss by text as early at 8am if the money has already been sent, prompting a terse reply from the boss about banking hours.

Having returned, the employee now starts to ask the boss about another loan, even before the first one has been fully paid, to buy his own mobile phone, it's said.

The boss doesn't commit, but from the behavior of the employee having been loaned a phone by one of his coworkers, is to accept calls from a girlfriend at all hours of the day.

The supervisor sees the boss' displeasure in this, and even hints at the others about not using the phone for long periods of time during working hours, as well as showing some industriousness to make the boss think he deserves the second loan, but this is done only once, doing the laundry in the middle of the day.

It doesn't sink in with the employee, and even racks up more bad habits such as sleeping late even when the boss is early, and eating rice (partially subsidized by the company, including the cooking) up to four times a day.

Session 2597 will have to continue this apparently long tale tomorrow. Class dismissed.
