Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Slacker co-teacher was here yesterday, after having heard from one of the students that he sent them a text message recently asking if they were his students in a certain subject. This made me apprehensive that maybe he wasn't leaving after all. But it turns out he has five weeks left before going. I even joked with him about just putting post-its in his cubicle on things that I/we wanted from him as parting gifts. @@ So I think that a certain student (I'm racking the rants up early this new school year) wasn't given special treatment this term and since he didn't go for regular advising during the tenth week of classes he had to approach all of the teachers of the classes he needs for this term. He did approach me about emailing me the list of classes he will be taking, but for next term. I was a bit apprehensive about that, since I didn't want him bombarding my mail, but then I realized there's an easy filter that could be set up for that, and at least I don't have to meet with him face to face. @@ The rant in the student accessible version is about a discipline case. I had expected the accused to whine about the process having taken as long as it had, then I would have asked him if there was a statute of limitations and if the complaint is any less significant now than it was then. His reply to that would have been interesting, especially in front of the guidance counselor. Because of the delay though, one of my major points for establishing his guilt, of his having embellished the story with two well known names which were, of course, the ones that the target of the rumor were all in arms against, was dismissed with "I don't remember anymore". It was so close because he even said that writing the public letter of apology that the complainant was asking "would have been easy", but since we are talking about almost a year after the fact, then that means even though the rumor has died down, that it would be resurrected, not something that all parties, including the mediator, wants to happen. I was also afraid that what the mediator said about their actions being commendable would go to his head. After all, part of the reason why we didn't go beyond one session is because he is already a graduate and just needs his documents (being held by the school until he is cleared) as soon as possible. So it really wasn't for lack of an ulterior motive on his part. Session 2665 is just glad that noose over my head for last school year is gone. Class dismissed.
