2009-06-16 11:27 PM More Notes from Around Campus Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Just some updates: the assistant of the guidance counselor, a practicum student from a nearby college and a much nearer home, will only be around on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I'm glad that the guidance counselor will not be giving her clerical work. In fact, there's a lot of data from just two terms' worth of interviews that will be able to reveal a lot of statistics about our students, so this will be wading up to the waist for the student. @@ And speaking of practicum students' it seems the one who used to work in the human resources office has been taken full time. I think he's already graduated from wherever school he's from. @@ There are supposed to be four computers that will be stationed at the student lounge to ensure that more students would hang out there instead of going off-campus during their breaks. This is from the information provided by the guidance counselor that the students are sorely tempted not to return to the campus anymore if they spend their off hours in the closest hang outs. So why is it that besides not wanting to give one of the computers to the discipline officer (even if we chose the one with the old operating system) the technician admitted that two of those computers are actually old? Were the other two computers actually ordered or were they given to the computer office personnel instead? @@ I talked to one of the math teachers about some of the students who I failed last term in my astronomy class dropping from her calculus class. This was after hearing about her attendance policy. They found out that she is not considering their absence from the first meeting as excused. They had the dropping form signed by the teacher, and it cited the reason on the form as being conflict with personal schedule. Well, it's their delay from graduating. What's funny is that one member of their group (who was not part of the three I failed last term) isn't dropping. The exact term used is that he's going to "tough it out" which infers that the other students know that they're giving up. This is because they believe there is one teacher handling math who will pass them without putting in much effort, because they believe she also passed another of their group before (who already graduated, and in fact was in the headlines recently for drug pushing) because they believe, or maybe the student claimed, that he didn't work hard. That's definitely not the kind of graduate attribute we want, so there has to be something done about their attitude, even if it means vigilantly monitoring their performance in class and their teachers. Session 2693 doubts that will push through. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
