Mood: I Would Not Give A Clue Read/Post Comments (0) |

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I thought there was not going to be any more lecture series in Taiwan this year like last year, but I just received the email today. It will be in November now instead of October, and it will be eleven days instead of two full weeks and then some. I know my chances of getting accepted (and approved) are slimmer now than last year, but it does not mean I should not apply. I also had the thin hope that Mr. Most Important Research would not be there, seeing as how I was only the second to apply from this country, but It actually just meant I was able to complete the registration before him. But this time I begged the director of the school of engineering (and the dean) if there could be other participants from our campus as well, since it will be completely subsidized anyway, and they will open it up. Okay, that is enough toeing the chicken coop fence peeking at the eggs before they are laid for now. @@ Last night we watched the play about the national hero going back to Earth to run for president. It was not as insightful as I thought it would be. The songs also were not catchy. There were very few laugh-out-loud moments. So I do not know how the students are going to market it for the new voters to watch. Maybe an information campaign would be better. And to think that up to the last minute, I was scrounging for attendees so that the six tickets reserved for us would not be wasted. As it turns out, there were no tickets, just a guest list with my name on top, so I could have brought as many as I wanted. There was lack of coordination again though, in that I was thinking there was one slot left to be filled, when actually there was none. And I only found out when I got on the shuttle that there were four students there, and one will meet us at the venue. So my co-teacher, who was also waiting at the venue, would have to sit it out. That was the text message that I composed, before I found out I could have brought an entire class to watch after all. It is too bad that the other teachers could not view it; I would have wanted a second opinion as to the quality. There were some politicians there, but none of those aspiring for the presidency. There were also descendants of national heroes. Too bad though that there were no progeny of the World War II president there, or of the hero whose face is on the 500 peso bill. Would it have been too partisan for them to make an appearance? Even a senator or two? Was I looking to be star-struck? Session 2781 would have wanted at least someone to rub elbows against on the national artist issue. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
