2009-09-03 10:40 PM The Term Ends with a Gurgle Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. The renovation of the student lounge is supposed to have started early this week, but it has not. There has already been an inquiry from the dean's office about it; thankfully the secretary of the office of student affairs was able to answer that we had set up the date with the furniture maker, it's just that they are the ones who didn't show up at the time set. Speaking of student affairs today was the first complete meeting if the student personnel services team, although we're still looking for another name to call ourselves. We talked about the leadership camp follow-up that will be held tomorrow, an evaluation of the activities of the first term and start of the planning for the second term. Speaking of which, the other day I also received the letter from the dean saying that on the recommendation of the officer for the welfare and the discipline of the student, I should be the administrative appointee to the discipline board. Even though I can't claim objectivity because most likely all the cases that will reach that far will have already passed my desk, I know that part of their reasoning is that I am being paid for that time, and that if any other administrator were asked to be part of that, it would take time away from their other (more important) duties. I keep forgetting to write in the student accessible version about the play we watched, and now for today I also forgot to mention about the thesis defense that I attended about the computerized system that can be set up for turning on and off the air conditioners, lights (and fans) in the classrooms, as well as logging in the attendance of the teachers and the students for each class via a fingerprint scanner. I told them that the registration of teachers should have a password generator, based on the name using a code that is not simple ASCII character equivalent counting. What I didn't expect was that they would show that logic during the defense; there is such a thing as being too thorough. I also was a bit irked that the students were talking about applications in hotels and apartments, when their title already specifically says "classroom" and the name of the school. I appreciate that the students came to me for advice on their paper and everything (to the point that the director of the school, when I entered the media lab, said "mentor") but it's another thing altogether to be too scared of not passing and not wanting to extend that they overfill their presentation with non-essentials. After all, the people there showed up for a demonstration. They should have gone straight to that and just prepared slides to answer any additional questions from the panel. Session 2785 wants to show knowledge of the subject matter, but not the expense of boring the audience. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
