2009-10-27 12:44 PM Kids Have Their Own Ideas When Not Fed All the Info Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I had a semi-surreal moment with one of the Grade 4 to 7 kids earlier here at the robotics lab training. He asked what time the competition was. I had thought all this time that they would just be here for the training. After all, yesterday, there were only two kids dedicated to going through the training missions, with two others helping them sporadically going in and out of the room throughout the afternoon. This morning when I got here there were about half a dozen kids present, including the son of the former executive vice president. First of all, I would have expected that the technician would not open the lab until I got here (or someone else) to watch over the kits. Anyway, my reply to the kid was when everybody who made a robot got here. Then he asked again. So I just said if everybody is here at 3pm, then we will start. I guess conditional statements go over his head. Since he is a student of this school, I now wonder what kind of instruction his teachers give him. And yesterday, two of the student council officers passed by here asking where the person (head of the college engineering assembly) was who was supposed to be in charge. I said I did not know. They may or may not have texted him while they were still here, but he did not show up. And when I was on the way home riding the shuttle, his car passed us on the road out. So he was in school. But I guess they prioritized the activity where they would have fund raising returns rather than helping out others. That is why they want to hold what is supposed to be a voting campaign that contains nothing that relates to campaigning. They want a DJ, a dance company, and customized cars supposedly from the south, but will most likely be their friends. And they want people to pay to get in, at a street party in front of the main building. So how will they prevent the people from just going in? Will they have the street party entrance at the gate? And ask people to pay by the number of people in the car? And I do not trust them when they say that this is what the students want. Maybe the ones who talk to them, but doubtfully we are talking about the entire student population here. I do not believe they have that pulse. Their time is running out to be able to complete this. I want to see real advocates the cause attend this party of theirs. But at the same time, I do not want the students attending to have their attention divided among the other supposedly cool activities. So in the end if I want to keep the integrity of the student activities and what is allowed, this will have to be denied. Session 2849 is fearful the students building robots just want a robot battle to witness. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
