Mood: As In Verb of Budget Read/Post Comments (0) |
2009-11-17 1:00 AM Students Not Willing to Budge Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. So the request of the College Student Council for additional funds for next term to be added to the tuition fee was denied. It was not clear in their letter how the five figure budget given to them at the start of the school year is not enough. Besides, as I think I already mentioned in a previous post about this, at the start of the school year they already gave the breakdown of their budget allocation for the entire school year, of which the dean still has a copy, even if it was rejected because of the inclusion of the car show that at the time was still tentative. Another thing, according to the panel, the Student Council does not qualify as a student organization. What I did not tell them is that at the start of the school year, the student council already blew their budget on shirts, of which only about fifty percent have been sold, after roughly six months. And that is part of the lack of gratitude that I am talking about, that I bailed them out on that problem with an outside shirt printer who was also a parent of a grade school student here, and called them unprofessional. Also, something that came up in the meeting is that the two past college weeks, Communication Arts and Business Administration, have survived on pure solicitations, so what they said about needing funds for the remaining college weeks (Information Technology and Engineering) is not true. If it were true, it would just speak for their lack of sponsorship hunting and fund raising skills in general. Well, in fact that could be said of all of the organizations in general, who are inclined to postpone or cancel events because they feel that the funds are not arriving soon enough for them. Another thing that the controller pointed out was that they already had an additional fifty thousand from the association of college parents, of which they only withdrew twenty thousand for their sports fest. It really just goes to show that they do not want to scale down their dreams regardless of practicality. And that they do not want to learn the lesson of wise money allocation this early. They want to be spoiled to coming up with ideas of events, or letting others dictate to them what they want (but not administrators) and they just want the money to arrive to make those events come true. As if that will prepare them for such a job description in the real world; they will fail miserably because their bosses will see they did not prepare enough, they assumed too much and they did not know what to do in the right order. I have pretty much given up on the student council and most of the other student leaders this school year as being too ingrained in their own ideas to be taught effective management. So I will let them flounder and just hope that the next batch will be better; that is, if I am still here or I still want to be. Good thing I have a very lucrative and self entertaining safety net that even now is earning me money. Session 2869 is hands off if they want to be independent. Class dismissed.
