Out of Campus Pursuits

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Wow, I cannot believe I am listening to a Sony Walkman again. And I am not talking about the new ones, but the cassette player.

The player has never been used before Tuesday. It turns out all you have to do is utter something in the ears of the right people and even old technology like this can fall into your lap.

I used to have my music on tapes. Well, I still do - dozens of them. I have the cable necessary to copy them to the computer.

But then the typhoons happened, and my walkman was one of the casualties. It was the second auto-reverse Walkman I owned.

I still have a cassette player at home, but it is 110 volts. And sometimes, the play button pops up in the middle of playing.

So unless I hold the play button down with my finger, I could not use this for transferring audio to the computer. It will probably slow down just as the play button attempts to release again.

The new walkman I got is not auto-reverse, and I am not sure if it is a loan. After all, the same person charged me seventeen thousand pesos for some things I thought were also a loan.

But even if I do return the player to him, at least both of us will have already taken advantage of it.

Right now I am using it beside the computer keyboard, with my mobile phones in front of me. It is like a family photo with grandfathers and grandkids, including the PC as a distant uncle or something.

And right now I have two ways of powering it. First is an adaptor that I originally bought for my Game Boy Color, but fits perfectly.

The second is using the rechargeable batteries that I bought for my digital camera and my WII Remotes.

So technology comes full circle. Old means of entertainment do not have to be thrown out; there is compatibility.

Wow, all these projects that I have on hold and now they will remain on the back shelf because this one takes precedence.

And as I mentioned in the micro-blogging networks, by the time I get home there will be a bicycle waiting for me. It has been decades since I last rode a bike at home (well one time it was about in the last five years, just once, then the two bikes at home got wrecked again), and I believe it is time to start anew.

@@ And on the discipline front, what does it tell you when parents schedule a meeting about the offense of their child, then want it to be a written schedule not by text or call, then they reset it twice not by letter?

Do both parents really have to be there to defend their kid when she is almost graduating? Are they still expecting the decision to be reversed at this late date, after going through two discipline boards?

This is also after the commission on higher education dropped the ball, not the school.

Session 2941 can now get rid of a lot of junk from my room. Class dismissed.
