Mood: Cliffhanging Again Read/Post Comments (0) |
2010-02-06 7:09 PM Last Word: I Left Early Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Damn, you email your students saying that there will be no more classes because it is a special class and someone dense does not get it. They still look for me with the secretary of the college faculty room, whose duty it is then to report it to the dean. So finally the student is able to find me at the time the class is supposed to start, at the faculty room in front of the computer. I tell him again about the email that says we will not have classes until further notice, that it will all just be research assignments. He brazenly says that he will still ask every time whether we will still have class. I tell him I will send an email if we will have a class. That puts him in his place, and he still says thank you. Of course I know this is just prefunctory and does not have any real meaning. And other thing: apparently despite saying that she will not list me down in the attendance anymore because it is a special class, the checker still told me when she saw me earlier that she knows I did not have class. @@ So earlier was the special general assembly of the association of parents of college students, to get rid of the clause in the constitution and by-laws about the quorum to elect new officers. There were less than 30 chairs set out, and there were less than twenty when the meeting started. According to the dean only two hundred plus letters of invitation were sent out, or were at least received by the students. Or maybe those are the ones that were returned, most of which said sorry they could not make it. Again I am disappointed in the student leaders for not insisting to their parents to be there, to have the association be more supportive of student activities. Maybe since their own term is ending, they do not see a need. It was the dean who decided to start the meeting, although the erstwhile president still was not there. According to the secretary, there was not even any indication that he would show up. Well, he did, right in the middle of the opening prayer of the brother president. I bet he would take that against them, starting the meeting without waiting for him; he is that much of an egotist. After the welcome remarks of the brother president, the holdover president was told to speak about a brief history of the need to meet. Of course he defended himself again, and blamed the school for everything. He could not just step down without a fight. I heard the brother president trying to rebutt him, even though I was outside because I could not stand to be in the same room as him. It was enough for one parent to ask the dean outside (or was it the other way around) while he was talking to clarify something. Session 2947 hopes it ended well, or at least ended. Class dismissed.
