2003-04-21 12:58 PM Family, Friends, and Anime Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Happy Read/Post Comments (0) Saturday we had dinner with Daniel's grandparents, and his parents, and a smattering of aunts, uncles and cousins. It was the usual fun semi-chaotic affair. I didn't get around to telling everyone about my new job until it was time for dessert, because I had been waiting for a moment when everyone was actually sitting at the table and there was a lull in the conversation. Silly me. A lull in the conversation? At a Starr family dinner?
I do adore Daniel's family. On Sunday, Clarionite Liz came over from the city and we had lunch and gelato, and we watched a couple of DVD's of The Vision of Escaflowne, which Liz hadn't seen. It remains one of my favorite anime series. (Someone recently told me that Escaflowne has actually was much more popular in the U.S. than it ever was in Japan. Which maybe makes it the anime equivalent of chicken tikka kabob. Whatever. I still think it's cool.) So, now it's Monday. I'm planning to spend the week tying up loose ends so that I can start my new job with a clear head. Probably will spend today running lots of errands. I am trying to decide if I have enough work-appropriate clothes, or if I need to go shopping. (Is there a Geek Edition of Dress For Success? I need to look professional and be capable of crawling around under large pieces of equipment with a screwdriver. But really, we all know that the secret of power dressing is to accessorize: if I clip my Leatherman multi-tool and my cell phone to my belt, no one will notice what I'm wearing.) No, I don't have a cell phone yet, but I'm planning on getting one. Time for me to join the 21st century already. Okay, time for me to go run those errands. Later!
