Grading

Grading is a necessary evil. Okay... it is not evil, necessarily. But if we were to withhold grades, you'd likely go ape with the uncertainty.

Still you wish, may even demand the highest grade. You will have to learn that the grade is an evaluation of the work, not of your intellect.

If I give you an A, when you deserved a C-, that does you no real favor. It is unfair to those who worked hard for the A and deserved it, and also to those who got C-, and didn't get the boost.

Therefore, your grade is your grade. You will have to live with it. Don't ask me to change it so you can play collegiate Pin Ball, or intermural snoring.

If you doubt my competence as a teacher, drop right now and take someone else. I may be unconventional, but I am not unprofessional.

Do not mistake my unconventional methods for leniency, I am stringent on attendance, and I grade strictly and consistently. If you want an easy course, go to a degree mill.

As a rule of thumb,

An A student never misses class, does all work, studys several hours a week, works on papers consistently on schedule and produces quality work and shows enthusiasm in the classroom.

A B student has produced good work. Perhaps has a few flaws in it. May have a few absences, but has not used up the allotted cuts. A B student is on the way to becoming an A student in a year or 2.

A C student turns in all the work, and meets criteria but is not above minimal expectations and may have attendance concerns... be nearing in on maximum cuts allowed.

A D student is missing work and/or missing too many classes.

An F student is missing lots of work, and or lots of classes, or has plagiarized, or dropped without dropping.
