Art of Argument (and the argument of art) What is art? Is Britney Spears Art? Is Marylin Manson Art? Is RUN DMC art? What does it mean to argue? To destroy the opposition? To make clear? To persuade the opposition? What does it mean to support your claims? Personal reasons, examples, facts, statistics, quotes from experts? That is what we are here to argue Whether you disagree with the claim or not, try arguing against your belief system. 1. Argue that Sinners In the Hand of an Angry God is a true manifesto of American Religious Doctrine and that America was supposed to be a religious country. 2. Argue that "" suicide is the fault of the Robin Williams character in Dead Poets Society. 3. Argue that Koyaanasquatsi is complete garbage Get into groups and make a case that this poem is okay for children to read in high schools have one person take the devils advocate and argue against it. Paper 1. Summarize and analyze a film looking for logos, ethos, and pathos. Quote the film when possible or paraphrase. Be sure and cite your sources. Use the third person. Paper 2. Summarize, analyze, and compare and contrast two song lyrics, or poems. Paper 3. What is art in your view? What are five qualifications of something being considered art. What crosses the line? Paper 4: Expand on papers one, two, or three, or you may combine all three, into a paper researching an aspect of art: Radio, TV, Film, Literature, and it's message. Find 3 Magazine articles, or books. You may also use websites, films, interviews, etc... Take a position at the end. Use the third person voice in all four papers.
