Chuggin' along

Tired

These past few days have been quite unproductive as far as writing goes. Since the concert on Tuesday night, I've been dog-tired and rather than attempt to write something, I've instead focused on other things.

I've spent a great deal of time and energy on the job hunt this week, but things are still looking pretty bad. I get an awful lot of recruiters contacting me, but few responses back from employers. All the economists and economic indicators point to an upswing in hiring, so I'm hoping I'll have more luck sooner rather than later. Meanwhile I'll just have to keep chugging along, sending out resumes, applying for jobs, and generally keeping my chin up.

Over the past few days I've also done a lot of reading. I've learned a great deal from all the story research I've been doing and shortly I'll be done with the research for one particular story. Then comes the hard part - sitting down and actually coming up with the story itself :)

Wolves of the Calla is a good read so far. I've just finished the prologue and it sounds like it's gearing up to be something like Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. I expect this will only be a small part of the story in this volume of the Dark Tower, so it'll be interesting seeing what else King has come up with for the remainder of the book!

Back in September I talked about listing some story stats in my entries. I just realized the other day I haven't updated these in awhile, so here they are:

2003 Word count:64,272
Total submissions:11
Total acceptances:0
Total rejections:10
Waiting for response:1

The word count is looking pretty anemic, so there's obviously a lot of room for improvement there. It's all gone downhill since the beginning of summer, but now that winter is approaching I'm hoping I can pick up the pace again. Heavy Rains will be ready for submission soon, which means I should really get cracking on my next project (or three, I should say)...
