I missed the lunar eclipse last night, despite reminding myself to poke my head outside at some point in the evening. I'm not sure if it was still overcast or not, but I'm still annoyed I missed it! This evening while doing my best to think up new and more inventive ways of procrastinating, I remembered reading on /. some time ago about a world viewing app NASA had put together. After a bit of searching, I found it here. It's called World Wind, and you can view the globe in detail, zooming in to individual house detail in the US (less zoom elsewhere) and viewing landscapes in 3D. It needs a pretty beefy system with a 3D card, and load times can be slow when it needs to pull in more data from the net. Still, it's a neat app if you've got the juice for it.
