Valentine's Day reflections

Well, it was a very nice Valentine's Day. My wife liked my numerous poems and small tokens of love. She got home, looking stunning in her corduroy skirt and white top, and got my present together. She brought it out and it reminded me of our first Valentine's Day together, Febriary 14, 2001.

We had been dating for nearly a month, and I had never been this serious with a girl before. I was a graduate assistant for American History since 1877 and had a number of tests to grade. I was also very sick, with tonsilitus and an ear infection. Needless to say, it was not a pretty picture.

But Janel insisted that I come over for Valentine's Day so she could take care of me. It still makes me a bit verklempt when I think about it. Talk amongst yourselves... Here's your topic- The American Revolution was not a revolution but a colonial insurrection. Discuss...

Back to the story. I protested, because I didn't want to spread my germy badness around to this girl (I really dug her), and I don't like being waited on or "helped" (it makes me feel weak and worthless), and I didn't want this sweet creature to see me a month into our relationship at less than 100%. But, I knew if I didn't go, she would be very upset, so I sucked it up and joined her.

She is very crafty and likes working on projects. She made me the sweetest envelope containing my presents. I still have the envelope tucked away in a drawer. I also remember the presents I got: a small stuffed pig because of an inside joke, some boxers and Deuce Bigelow which is a terrible movie, but it is hilarious. I can't even remember what I got for her- I think a stuffed animal and some flowers/candy.

I still think about that and how sweet it was. So last night, I opened my craftily produced envelope, and found a pair of boxers, a small stuffed pig, and two DVDs... Groundhog Day and Dr. Strangelove. It was such a nice gift, and it brought these memories flooding back.

We enjoyed dinner at a Mexican restaurant and each others' company afterwards. It was a very nice Valentine's Day and I will always remember it.
