I used to really like Earthlink. I never had a bad thing to say about them and would recommend them to anyone. I've been with them since 1995. Recently, however, I've been less and less thrilled with them.

About two months ago I signed up for DSL. I had been paying around $21 a month for dial up service. The DSL deal they told me about was $20 a month for the first 6 months and then around $45 a month after that. So, I decided to get DSL. Such a mistake.

The first modem they sent us was broken. They sent us a second one, but keep threatening to charge me a bundle if we don't send the first one back with the UPS label they sent to us. The problem is, we never received a UPS label from them. Both Rob and I have spoken to them about this several times and they keep promising to send us the damn label. And even though the label never comes, they keep threatening to charge me for the broken modem.

And if that isn't annoying enough - they lied to me about the price. My first month's bill for DSL was $50. And this month's bill was $75!!! What the hell??? I am so not cool with this and unless they can explain themselves, I'm temped to cancel my Earthlink service and switch to another provider who doesn't lie to me about their fees. Has anyone else ever had any problems like this with their ISP?

I'd like to stay with Earthlink because I've had my e-mail since 1995, and that means that on occasion old friends from college and the like try to see if I'm still using that addy. It enables me to keep in touch with people who I might lose touch with forever. But what Earthlink is charging me is just insane. We'll see what they have to say, but if they don't reimburse me some money or give a damn good reason why my bills aren't what they promised, then I'm switching service. Or, at the very least, cancel my DSL with them and go back to dial up. It might be slow, but I never started having any problems with Earthlink until I switched to DSL.
