Rob got off of work about a half an hour early today. It's what his boss thinks is a "half day". Yeah. Anyway, when he got home we headed over to Burbank and this time there was actually parking. I think this was because he was the one driving and the parking gods just like him that much. What can I say, he does have the mojo of the parking dance!

We first had dinner at the really yummy Greek place (I think it's called The Golden Chicken) and then we saw a 7:10 showing of Dominion. This is a movie I have been very interested in seeing.

For those of you not in the know, Dominion is the original prequel to The Exorcist. When it was done and the studio viewed it, studio execs decided to axe it and re-make the entire movie with a new director. The movie that came out last year (Exorcist: The Beginning) was the second version of the film. That one pretty much sucked. The main reason they decided not to release Dominion was because they didn't think it would appeal to general movie audiences and so they tried to make something that would.

Let me first just say that both movies are bad. However, Dominion was better than the crap they released last year. I liked it a lot more than Rob, but I think that's because it was very much like an indie film. And you really need an appreciation of 1920's German horror films to appreciate this movie. So, I can see why they decided to not release it and make a new movie. However, what they made in place of it was so much worse. While Dominion did have it's bad points (like an actress who blew), it was still better than Exorcist: The Beginning. It was far more cerebral, had a wonderful use of imagry in some points, and it actually made sense and had a script you could follow. No such luck for the one released last year - it was convoluted as all hell. Plus this ending of this one was SO much better than the other one. All in all this was a much better movie than what the studio decided to go with, but it still wasn't a great movie. The script was different, but the general story was the same and it's that story that just isn't all that interesting. Both movies lagged a lot at the beginning and only got interesting in the last few minutes of the film. Not much can be done with a story that blows, but Dominion made the best of it. If you're into cinema, especially horror movies, and if you saw Exorcist: The Beginning I recommend seeing Dominion just to compare.

After the movie, Rob and I made a quick stop at the ATM and a run into the grocery store. We also stopped for ice cream at Baskin Robbins and then headed home. We'll probably head to bed sometime soonish because if we can get up early tomorrow AM we're thinking about heading to Solvang for a day trip. We both need to de-stress and de-tox a bit and Solvang is the perfect place for that.
