Well, That's One Way To Wake Us Up

Mood:
Wondering why Amber decided to pee all over the bed.

Well, if we had any doubt about getting out of bed this morning it was out of our heads when we woke up at 7:30am to find ourselves covered by a comforter that was covered in cat pee. Nothing wakes you up like realizing you've been sleeping under a pissed on blanket. *sigh* We thought this was over with. Amber has been so good the past few years - nothing outside the litter box. And the only time she peed in the bed was the first night we brought her home from the rescue group. The cats have been allowed in our bedroom for a while now and there have been no problems until this morning. There's no pee anywhere else in the house that we can find (other than the litterboxes) so we have no idea what the hell went on last night. Also, she didn't fully just pee. There were about five spots of cat pee ranging from about the size of the bottom of a coffee mug to about the size of two splayed out hands. We don't know why she would do it in small amounts in so many places or how we could have slept through her peeing the bed. It seems like the pee spots were only small amounts because it only soaked through to the sheets in one small area. So weird.

So, this morning while I was getting ready (because it takes me an hour and a half to get ready and Rob can get ready in half an hour) Rob took our nice piss covered silk comforter over to Milt and Edie's for dry cleaning. I really hope they can salvage it. When he got back we finished getting ready, made sure the cats could not access the bedroom since the sheets still had a pee odor about them, and headed out to Solvang. We were both wide awake and we didn't want our plans for the day ruined on account of cat pee.

We headed out around 9:30am, which was half an hour after we had wanted to leave. However, considering the shock of waking up, the time it took to realize what was all over the comforter, and a trip to the dry cleaners, I don't think leaving a half an hour late was all that bad. The drive up was nice and it's long drives like this which make us fully LOVE our iPod. Traffic was a bit congested in the LA area, but once we hit the Calabasas exit it was smooth sailing all the way to Solvang. We arrived there around 11:45am.

There was ample parking and after we stretched our legs a bit we headed to the Heidelburg Inn for lunch. Our usual sausage platter for two and some abelskivver. From there we stopped in a toy store where I bought some orange and black shiny rocks to put in the glass milk bottle with my black and orange leather rose. We then stopped into the De-Stress Cafe to make appointments for later that afternoon. We're glad we did because they were already almost fully booked. We each got an appointment for 5:30pm. We then wandered around more of the town. In Mystic Merchant I got some of those stone carved animal totems that I collect and Rob bought me an amazing necklace (pendant actually). It's a super cool looking ankh with moldavite stones set into it. Moldavite is one of my favorite stones. I love it. We then wandered around and looked in a whole bunch of stores. By the time 3pm rolled around we had pretty much done everything we wanted to. Solvang is so much nicer on a weekday. On the weekends it's packed, but today it was virtually empty. So nice. So, we decided to make a quick run up to a Linens N Things (the guy who works in the De-Stress Cafe told us about this one) in Santa Maria. All of our quilts that are put away aren't clean. We usualy get a quilt cleaned before putting it on the bed. And our main one is at the dry cleaners for cat pee removal. So, we decided to pick up a blanket that we can throw over us tonight. It was cool driving up to Santa Maria because we've never been up that way before.

After the Linens N Things run we headed back to Solvang. We drove around and looked at houses there and realized just how much we could never afford anything up there when we noticed that one of the houses for sale was on the market by Sotheby's! Damn. After driving around and looking at all the wonderful homes we headed back to the downtown area, parked, and walked around a bit. We stopped by the theatre to see if anything was playing tonight, but the plays don't start until mid-June. Finally we made our way back to the De-Stress Cafe for our 5:30pm appointments.

I cannot say just how much I love that place. Rob got his usual 45 minute deep table massage and I got my usual 20 minute seated massage and 30 minute foot reflexology massage. That place is pure bliss. And after all the stress that's been building up in our lives from various sources and the fact that we woke up sleeping in cat pee, we both really needed something relaxing. I spent the time just relaxing with my eyes closed listening to the soothing music and running water. Rob fell asleep during his massage and snored a bit. That was so cute. I'm getting my foot rub and I suddenly hear snoring coming from behind the curtain. My narcoleptic hubby is just so damn cute and endearing sometimes.

After our massages we headed to dinner at The Mandarin Touch (wonderful Chinese food). Dinner was great and when we were done we headed back to the car and out of Solvang. On the way to the freeway we made a stop at a drug store so that Rob could get some Red Bull and made a stop to put some gas in the car.

The ride home was rather uneventful. We talked, joked, and listened to the iPod. There was pretty much no traffic. I guess people are smart enough to not travel to LA for a weekend getaway. People flee LA for the weekend, not flock to it. Smart.

We got home a little after 10pm. We're both very tired, but we needed to clean up the rest of the bed. We washed and dried our matress pad. That took two hours to dry. We just put it back on the bed and transfered the sheets over to the dryer. So, we'll be up even longer. On the bright side, we should both sleep well tonight since we're both exhausted. No exact plans for tomorrow as of yet (other than hopefully picking up our comforter from the dry cleaner if it's ready). At some point this weekend I wouldn't mind hitting the Aquarium or Disneyland (but D-Land would have to be at night due to the nasty hot daytime temps), but we'll see if that actually happens. Either way, at least today was a blast! Well, except for the morning.

Oh, I almost forgot to put this in here. I think I really might be allergic to the sun. How messed up is that? We spent most of the day wandering around outside and once again I managed to get a rash over all of my exposed parts. My arms and upper chest had sunscreen on it and got a bit of a rash (SPF 45), my face had sunscreen on and got a bit more (SPF 15), and the backs of my hands and tops of my feet (I wore flip flops) had no sunscreen on them and are all rashed out and itchy. This is so bizarre. How can someone be allergic to the sun???
