pregnancy

Yesterday was good. Today, not so much.

Yesterday Rob and I slept in with no alarms set. We got up when our bodies were good and ready. We had considered going to Disneyland since the weather was a lot nicer than it has been recently, but it was already getting late and we found out that the park was closing at 10pm and not at midnight like we had thought. So we decided to skip Disneyland and do it some other time.

We ended up deciding to go to Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant down at Knott's Berry Farm. I haven't been able to eat chicken for this entire pregnancy and all of a sudden it sounded good. I didn't want to lose whatever window I had to eat a food I normally enjoy. And I'm glad I did because once again today chicken sounds vile. Before dinner we found a candy shop at Knott's and got a bag of salt water taffy. I've been craving salt water taffy for awhile now, but have had no way of getting it. I'm munching some right now as I type. The line for dinner wasn't too long, but it wasn't moving. Most of the restaurant was empty, but the line wasn't going anywhere. We were in line for around 45 minutes. Wow. Being pregnant makes it very difficult to stand for long periods of time. By the time we were let in (which was earlier than most people in front of us since we were only a party of 2) my back was killing me and my legs hurt and were swelling. On the bright side, dinner was great and I'm really glad we went there. After dinner we headed home.

Today, so far, has sucked. I woke up to the screeching of the smoke detector over the bed which let me know that the power was off. Our phones were also dead, and my cell was on low battery. Not good. When I finally got ahold of Rob on his cell I found out that the downtown area had no power as well. Apparently something major happened at the DWP and most of Los Angeles was without power. Without the air conditioning it got really hot really fast. When the power came back on I took a much needed shower, but had to do so in freezing water. Even though the power was back on (and has been for awhile now) our building has no hot water. Taking an ice cold shower sucks (it's hard to breathe normally while under the water), but it's something I really needed to do. I desperately needed to clean up especially since I was so stinky that Amber was making "I'm going to bury you in my litterbox" motions around me. So a cold shower it was. A cold shower was better than no shower and I feel nice and clean now.

Let me tell you, being pregnant with no AC in the summer sucks ass. Even when I'm not pregnant, I have a low tolerance to heat. While pregnant that tolerance is even lower (apparently it's because I now have 50% more blood in my body) and combined with hot flashes I was dying when the air was off. Ugh. We now have power, but still no hot water. I hope we get it back on by tomorrow. Luckily the laundry I need to get done today are all things that can be washed in cold water!

Hrm, Sydney has an odd obsession with taffy and their little paper wrappers. And the other day we found out he likes Miracle Whip. I have one odd little Abby!
