Friday night Gabriel and I chilled out around the house because Rob had to work late handing out badges to people at a hospital event. Once he got home we had a late dinner and pretty much passed out. I was worn out from my day with Gabriel and he was worn out from work.

On Saturday Rob got up before me and got a bit of cleaning done. Our apartment is a mess and my Dad and Sheryl were coming over in the afternoon. He got a good amount done in a short amount of time and really made things look a lot better.

Dad and Sheryl got to our place around 1:30pm. We had planned on going to an early dinner around 2ish, but time kind of flew by and we spent a few hours hanging out in the apartment. I found out that they are married (they were married in Vegas) but I still don't know when they got married or why I wasn't invited. Dad seems to have some close ties to Sheryl's children and granddaughter, he even showed me pictures of them on his camera phone. I'm not surprised that he sees them more than he sees me. Hopefully the addition of Gabriel will change that, we'll see. Dad held Gabriel for a few seconds. It was kind of funny because you could tell he didn't really know how to hold a baby. He held him out at arm's length and looked as if he was wondering if baby's explode. Sheryl held him for a lot longer and gave him back to us when he fell asleep and was making her warm. Gabriel can be a little furnace if he's held for awhile. Dad mentioned that they were staying at a different hotel than usual and Rob picked up on that and asked me if they had been in town and just not seen us. Yup. Hell, my Dad once had a case in Los Angeles that lasted months and didn't see me once during it. And that's even though I was in the hospital with asthma during the time he was here! As I said before though, I'm hoping Gabriel changes all of that. I would like to see my Dad more often and I really want Gabriel to have a good relationship with all of his grandparents.

Around 5pm we decided to head out for dinner. Dad offered to take us some place like Fondue, but we figured we should head to a place that was a bit more kid friendly. That way if Gabriel had a fit it would be in a restaurant where there were other children and not in a super nice place. Besides, newborns and spitting oil probably don't mix well. We took separate cars because the car seat base is in our cars and they wanted to head back to their hotel after dinner (I also think neither of them wanted to be crammed in the back of Rob's car with a baby in a carseat between them, and you know, I can understand that).

We ended up going to the Olive Garden over in Burbank. Dad teased me that we went so far, but I don't think he understands that because LA is so spread out, everything is 20 minutes away. In Chicago everything is right there together, one of the many things I miss about being in a "real" city. To me, LA is more of an urban sprawl. Dinner went well and neither Dad nor Sheryl had ever been to an Olive Garden before. They both seemed to enjoy it and we all had a good time. Gabriel was an angel during dinner! He slept most of the time and only fussed once because he wanted his pacifier. Now we know that we can go out to eat with Gabriel and not have to worry about having a screaming baby at the table.

After dinner Dad and Sheryl headed back to their hotel and Rob and I headed across the way to Target to get our weekly supply of formula, diapers, and other baby necessities. We considered stopping at Krispy Kreme for some doughnuts, but by that time Gabriel had woken up and started crying and we wanted to get him home and feed him. We considered feeding him before we left, but thought it would just be easier to head home and do it there.

Sunday we spent the day in doing the laundry. We got all of the clothing loads done and will be doing the sheets and towels sometime this week. Today I was up at 6am and was able to get a shower in while Rob fed Gabriel before he headed off to work. Right now I feel like I'm about to pass out. I didn't sleep well last night and am unbelievably tired. I'm looking forward to when I can just pass out tonight. Rob's going to be picking me up during his lunch hour and taking Gabriel and I over to Good Sam. I have a post-partum / annual girl checkup appointment with Dr. Hill this afternoon. Right now I wish we had some coffee around the house. I need caffeine. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of Coke Black. Looks like a wonderful product for someone with a newborn in the house! Maybe I can sleep in the car on the way to the hospital.
