Sleeping this morning proved to be very difficult. The roofers started working early and even though I was very tired and my Mom was watching the baby, it was impossible to sleep in with all the banging. Going to the bathroom early this morning was also difficult. Going in one of the upstairs bathrooms meant risking waking up the baby. Going in the other one meant that the roofers could watch me through the skylight because they were working in that area at the time. Oy.

Since I couldn't sleep, I spent some time just lounging around and once I got ready (wondering during my shower just who was watching through the skylight) my Mom and I headed over to a friend of hers house (PK) and picked up a play yard that she's borrowing for Gabriel.

We then came back home and got ready to go out for the evening. Rob put on a pair of antennae (which looked like Grundo Stix... something only you other Neopets players will understand) and I put on a pair of horns. We put Gabriel in a onesie so that we could get him into his costume once we got into town (it's not something he could have worn in the carseat).

We got into town around 4:30 and headed to The Log Cabin where we had dinner reservations. Tonight was the night of the Halloween parade and so the town was packed. We're lucky we were even able to find a parking spot. At The Log Cabin all the waiters were dressed up and ours was a guy dressed as a girl. We had put Gabriel into his lobster costume just before going into the restaurant and he was very good and slept through dinner. He did give us occasional dirty looks for dressing him up as a lobster.

After dinner we headed outside and found a place to stand and watch the parade. The stroller was taken back to the car and Rob and I took turns holding Gabriel while my Mom stood by my Nana in her wheelchair. So many people commented on Gabriel's lobster costume. We realized too late that with all the attention that costume got him, we should have gone in the parade with him (anyone who wants to can be in it). The parade was super cool and Gabriel seemed to have a great time watching the things go by. After the parade we drove by a "glowing", a place by the river where a whole bunch of hot air balloons were set up and flaring up their fires to light the balloons. This town is so cool, especially around Halloween.

After the parade and a few drives by the hot air balloons we headed back to my Mom's place to get settled in for the night. I'm so glad we get an extra hour of time tonight. That's going to make a lot of difference since it's looking like we'll have to be up around 6am tomorrow morning to head into Milwaukee and go apartment hunting. We figure we don't have the time to find a house or condo and probably wouldn't be able to qualify for much (if any) of a mortgage at this point anyway. So we're probably going to have to settle for an apartment and then try to get a house a few years down the road.

It's scary, the other day I realized that the last time I was in the midwest for my birthday or Halloween was fifteen years ago! It was when I was in high school, living in Chicago, and turning seventeen. Scary.
