So-So

I do hope that 2010 turns out better than the past couple of years (a job would be nice). But so far, it hasn't. I got to come home from a nice relaxing few days at my Mom's place for New Years only to find out that Sydney has diarrhea. Lovely. He's able to make it to the box and it's not nearly as bad as it was a few months ago. So I think I'll give it until tomorrow and see how he's doing and if I need to try and get him to the vet on either Wednesday or Saturday. Hopefully, it's a bug and will go away on it's own without a vet trip.

Oh, and if I can't find a job, I'm considering looking into nursing school. I'd rather do med school, but I don't have an undergrad science degree. My undergrad degree is a BFA in Cinema Television. Not what's needed to get into med school and not the needed foundation to pass the MCATs. At least if I did nursing school I KNOW I could find a job since there's a shortage of nurses. Plus, I could work in the ER (and being an ER doctor is what I wish I could be). It's not a doctor work (and it would be odd going from an attorney to a nurse), but it's something that might make me happy (and more employable). We'll see. Hopefully I'll find a damn attorney position and the economy will turn around.

Anyway, here's the recap of the last few days:

Thursday, December 31:

Rob had the day off. We got up early and showered and packed for our trip to see my Mom. We took my car out for a drive and got our grocery shopping done for the week so that we didn't have to worry about doing it when we came home on Sunday. We got out of the house around noonish and headed out to my Mom's place.

The drive was uneventful (that's a good thing) and we made a stop off at a gas station/McDonalds to use the rest rooms and to get Gabriel some nuggets for lunch. We then stopped off at China Palace to grab some Chinese food for lunch for us. We ate in the car and then continued on our way to my Mom's house.

We got to my Mom's place around 4pm. We unpacked, relaxed, and then headed out to dinner. We headed into Galena to get some food at Dirty Gurtz Burger Joynt. I made the mistake of ordering the Inferno Burger. I like spicy, but this was inedible. So, instead I got a taco salad. Dinner was good and Gabriel was well behaved. When we were done, we headed back to my Mom's place for the night. We were going to open a bottle of champagne, but I had a rather bad headache and needed to take Tylenol (and can't drink while taking that), so we decided to save the champagne for later.

Friday, January 1:

Friday morning we got to sleep in (so nice). Once we were showered and ready to go, we headed out. We made a run into Dubuque and stopped briefly in Borders. I was looking for a particular book for Gabriel, but couldn't find it so I'll just check Amazon down the road.

Dinner was had at House of China (my favorite Chinese restaurant). We were supposed to meet up with a friend from RPoL, but it didn't happen. I got a message on my cell letting me know he was sick. Ah well, these things happen. Foodage was yummy and when we were done we headed back to my Mom's place for the night. This night, we did have the champagne.

Saturday, January 2:

I was going to sleep in, but Gabriel had an absolute fit Saturday morning. So, Rob and I got up to help my Mom out with it. He wanted to watch Ben 10 and it wasn't on then. It took some cuddle time with me to get him to calm down and by the time he did so, I was awake for the day.

I showered and got ready and then we headed back out to Dubuque. This time we made a stop at Kohl's. I picked up some PJs and underpants for Gabriel and a thick and warm hoodie for myself. The shopping went well, but the checking out did not. We waited in line for close to 20 minutes (not only from it being a long line, but also from being stuck behind a price check) and when we got up front we were told that we had to go to another register in order to use Rob's employee discount! So, we went over to the other side and found out that the discount could only be used on that side. We waited in line for another 20 minutes (and of course weren't allowed to head to the front of the line) to finally check out. Needless to say, I was rather annoyed.

After Kohl's, we headed to IHOP for dinner. Rob and I haven't been to an IHOP since the last time we were at one in California with Berek and Pita. My Mom couldn't remember the last time she was at one. It sounded good and it was. Dinner was yummy and it's always nice to have breakfast at night. After dinner we headed back to my Mom's place to chill out and get some laundry done.

Sunday, January 3:

We got up, got ready, and packed. We spent some time around my Mom's house and ended up leaving around 12:30pm. Once again, the drive home was uneventful. We made a stop off at a gas station to use the rest rooms and to grab some drinks for us and a snack for Gabriel.

When we got back to our neck of the woods Rob made a quick run in to see my Nana and drop off a bag of things my Mom had gotten for her. We then headed home and unpacked. We came home to find out that Sydney once again has diarrhea. As mention at the beginning of this entry, I'm going to see what happens with it before taking him to the vet. Last time he had it he couldn't make it to the box, it was near constant, and had a weird mucus in it. This time it's not happening all that often (only once last night and none so far today), isn't filled with mucus, and he's able to make it to the box. I'll keep an eye on him and see if I need to schedule a vet trip or not.

After unpacking we took my car out for a drive and got a Happy Meal for Gabriel for dinner. Rob and I ordered in pizza from Domino's. Unbeknownst to me, Domino's completely changed their pizzas. I'm still not sure if I like the new one better or not.

There was nothing on TV, so we watched our Netflix DVD of Grace. The sound on it was terrible, but the movie was pretty good. It was a struggle to get Gabriel to go to sleep for the night, but once he did I pretty much passed out.

Today:

Today is pretty busy. I have to play catch up on a lot of things I missed when I was gone, get the laundry done, watch Gabriel, look for jobs, and keep an eye on Sydney. It's busy and chaotic and I'm looking forward to when bedtime rolls around (probably about 12 hours from now).
