Not A Great New Years Day

So, New Years Day was not the best start to 2013, I can only hope that this is getting the bad out and that only good will come for the rest of the year.

Last night, a little after 7pm, Cupcake was crawling on me on the couch and I noticed that his right cheek was swollen. I checked online and Rob e-mailed the breeder and both led us to believe that we needed to get him to the ER as soon as possible. It sounded like an abscess and because he's so small, the infection can turn fatal in less than a day.

So, we found an ER that accepted sugar gliders as patients over in Greenfield, dropped Gabriel off at my mom's, and took Cupcake there.

It was a holiday and so they were a bit short staffed and because no other vets had been open that day there were a lot of people waiting. Everything from a dog having a seizure to a diabetic cat. It took about three hours total, but it was well worth it because Cupcake did indeed have an abscess. He's now on antibiotics and pain medication for it.

I found a vet over in Brookfield that accepts Sugar Gliders and have an appointment with them next Wednesday afternoon. It'll be for both a wellness visit and to double check that he's not having any problems with the abscess.

Say a little prayer for my baby sugie and let's hope he gets well soon. As of today, he's only 12 weeks old - still a baby and should not have to be dealing with things like this.
