Buffalo Gal

I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 12-step support for Buffalo fans

Losing a football game is not that unusual, half the teams who have played so far have done it.
Losing in the last four seconds when you've had the game wrapped up a couple of times... that's a Buffalo thing.
There may not be a more co-dependent relationship in all of professional sports than the Bills and their fans. Buffalo fans are born Buffalo fans. Even if they move away, they stay Buffalo fans. No matter how badly the Bills abuse them, they (we) bleed red, white and blue.
If a Buffalo fan meets another Buffalo fan in a far corner of the world, conversation will immediately turn to the Titans game, Norwood's kick and other of our greatest hits of failure.
An occasional cockeyed optimist with throw on the largest comeback in history against the Oilers, but a real fan will remind them quickly the team is outside of our division.
The "where-I-was-and-how-much-I-hurt" for each of the four consecutive Super Bowl losses is even more important to Buffalo natives than the Blizzard of 77 stories.
Still every summer hope springs. When Ricky Williams flaked out on our arch nemesis Miami there was almost something like possibility.
The draft of a mobile young quarterback with a scrambling attitude to learn behind the aging Bledsoe and a spare quarterback seemed like a good thing too... until both young quarterbacks dropped like preseason flies to injury.
That's just the way it is for Buffalo. Season ticket holders get their money's worth, it's always a long, long season.
And so we go again...
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change (the offensive line, our lead-footed quarterback, excessive penalties, suspect coaching)
the courage to change the things I can (the channel)
and the wisdom to know the difference.
