Buffalo Gal

I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. Forty degrees of misery

The toe will take six weeks to heal, the doctor said. But only the first few weeks will be painful.
At least, I thought, the snow is gone. I couldn't imagine navigating that goofy shoe and tender toe in the slip sliding slush.
Basking was the only way to describe the warm, energizing feeling as I waited outside for Lisa to bring some office papers by at lunchtime. The fact that I was comfortably wearing shorts in April made it easy to tackle the stairs. Just Saturday she and I had taken a five-mile, pre-concert walk through local neighborhoods in the glorious sunshine. The continuing warmth would surely speed the healing process. We'd be walking together again soon.
I opened the window to cool the hovel and put on the television to be greeted with chiling news.
We're looking at a forty degree temperature drop and the possibility of snow.
I'm got enough soup, microwave popcorn and cereal to get to the middle of May.
After that, it's anybody's guess.
