2006-02-04 6:25 PM More Restaurant Reviews... Mood: for New York City Read/Post Comments (1) |
As restaurant week comes to an end, I had made reservations for Rosa Mexicana. I changed them QUICKLY when Derek mentioned he interviewed there a while ago and not only was the waitstaff was pretentious, the food was horrible. Instead we went to a mexican place that we both love MARYANN'S in the Village. The food was delectable. The pitcher of margaritas was to die for. A great way to end the day.
Final, last night I headed over to Derek's restaurant where he's one of the head bartenders. Located in Chelsea on 28th street between Park and Madison, URENA has only been open for 2 weeks and is the new hit in New York. It got packed...fast. Opened by famous chef Alex Urena, this three star restaurant features Spanish cuisine and yummy drinks if I do say so myself. Everything is fresh and organic. The drinks are made in front of the customer and they use fresh fruit instead of sour mix and other mixtures. Because of this the drinks taste much smoother. I had a raspberry coconut martini and a mojito crushed with fresh mint. Both were fantastic. At the bar, I enjoyed a selection of tapas. I opted for the four cheese plate which is served with bread that was freshly baked earlier that day and a sauce that's a mixture of dijon, spanish olives, and olive oil. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate pudding which was not good. So, they brought me the peanut butter and jelly dessert which was a gelatin but tasted just like peanut butter and jelly. It was good. After the meal, they bring you a plate with a piece of lime jelly candy, a peanut soaked in bourbon, and a chocolate square. Delectable! Here's a quick re-cap on my other two reviews earlier in the week : DELMONICOS - financial district. Crabcakes were kinda mushy. Meatloaf was good. Fish was kinda squishy. Chocolate cake was good. Cappucino was yummy! It's a good thing the portions were smaller because I felt refreshingly full. Not stuffed. The decor is very rich. It's a beautiful place. They put us in the back. ADRIENNE'S - Pearl Street, downtown Some of the best NYC pizza I've ever had. I recommend the Old Fashioned pizza with the pepperoni and calamata olives.
