2004-01-02 11:46 AM Launch into the new year Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Determined I was researching something on the web on Tuesday (I don't even remember what I was looking for, frankly) and I came across MyEntertainmentWorld.com. They have a subscription service to news info, particularly on projects in development.
They also have a section for people looking for short scripts. I browsed through them and found a few that interested me. Three were looking for festival-bound shorts, and one was a USC student looking for a thesis project material. So, I queried them. I forwarded a logline about First Contact, an old spec I'd written for the Outer Limits, to the USC student. He wrote back almost immediately and asked me to forward the scrip to his producer at USC, which I've done. To the others, who were looking for festival shorts, I sent them the full script I wrote called Proof Of Love. It's about an engaged woman who wants definitive proof that she is truly in love. It was inspired by a news article about an author who claims that you can, in fact, scientifically prove that two people are in love. I got a response to that one almost immediately as well, and the director and I spoke this morning. He liked the material very much, and had immediately forwarded it to an exec producer here in Hollywood. The director, David, particularly liked how I start out the story with nary a word of dialog -- the setup is all done visually. That appealed to him a great deal. David's working on breaking out of documentary filmmaking and into fiction. He's had his material win several festival awards, and I have a good feeling about our initial conversation. Based on the feedback about Proof of Love, he may use it to create something that's not documentary, to have as a sample of his talent. He's looking for a writer he can partner with, perhaps on a long-term basis, since he's not a great writer (his words). We talked about FORK-TAILED DEVIL and MIND GAMES, and I'm now forwarding both scripts to him. He's very keen on FTD, since he loves WWII stories, but his exec producer is more interested in science fiction. David wants both pieces so he can look at them with an eye to directing. If he likes them, he'll forward to his Hollywood contact -- who exec produces -- and we'll see what happens after that. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
