I did my first open mic last night at a cafe in Santa Monica. Was so totally beatnik. All these poets reading their stuff. I read three poems: 50 Year Old Men, Children of the Slow, and Snow in August. They were well received! People even laughed at the spots I had intended and looked sad in the sad places. Then the best part. One of the scheduled readers--not open mic but invited to read, said he was going to add a poem to his reading that was a rebuttal to 50 Year Old Men!! I got rebuttaled!! Was so totally cool. My teacher, Laurel, was there with her gang of poets. I want in with that crowd! |
