Story progress and rant.

So, what is it that people don't understand about "Road Closed"?

The road outside our house is closed at the moment because of some major work going on. There's an enormous pit in the middle of it, and it collapsed in the other night. There is no way to drive along it. The workmen have considerately put out loads of signs saying the road is closed, blocked it off with cones a long way back, marked out the diversion (a couple of hundred yards extra, at most), but still cars keep coming down the road. Okay, maybe they think the signs are lying. So, they get to the pit in the road. No way past. What would you do?

Most rational people, I think, would accept the mistake, turn around, and follow that 30 second diversion.

Not the people around our way. Last night we were coming back from taking Nika for a walk and there was this woman driving over our front lawn, over all the tools and spare barriers and junk that the workmen had left. Now, this is not an easy lawn to drive over. It's on a slope, there's a dip in the middle for the path, there were all sorts of obstructions.

And she wasn't the first person that evening I'd seen driving over someone's front lawn to get around this hole.

*End rant*

Writing progress:
Did another couple of hundred words last night on the latest short story. I don't think I'm far from the end now. Hopefully should hit the Friday target.

I've never written a story in this way before. I've always relied, to a lesser or greater extent, on inspiration before I started a story. This time, it's a story that I came up with with Steph in our brainstorming session. I'm working from a single sentence, fairly general premise. I'm not sure what to make of the story that is coming out of it. It's quite different to what I've written before, but I think I like it. We'll see when it's done. Bids are now open on the finished product. Let's start at 20 cents a word. :)
