When you judge a writing contest, you are in a position of power as much as any judge in the land is considered to be.

You control, to some point, the destiny (or at least the state of mind) of the writer you are judging. It is up to you to be clear-headed, to put prejudices aside, and to judge the work on it's own merit, and not against the others that may be in the same category.

Tough stuff. And that's what I've done most of today. I'm currently judging entries in a paranormal romance contest, and have actually finished two entries and started two others. I've got eight to do all together, which, yeah, may interfere with my writing but I also learn So Damn Much it doesn't seem an imposition.

Anyway, that's what I'm doing right now, judging.

Eldest son just had his last Concert Band Spring Concert. He played the French Horn wonderfully, but he's not going into band again next year so there's that. At least he hasn't decided yet whether or not to give away his french horn! Maybe his younger brother will play it...

But I got a pic of him in his cummerbund and bow tie, so I'm happy.

School is out in less than a week...
