She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford

Gate, Jack's, wanders

A moment to sit down by myself. Amazing.

We got out much later than expected yesterday, but still got to the War by 4, I think. Before that, we picked up the RV, packed it, picked up canvas parasols to sell. took the computer monitor in for repair, sent a fax to Korea…

Once we arrived, it only took a few minutes to hook up the RV—another perk of this type of encampment. We headed down to Gate early, which was a good thing, as Brandon was pretty frazzled and it gave me time to hear about the various problems before I sat down to deal with them. (None of the registration forms had been organised—they were all still in envelopes. I had extra volunteers, so I set them to work alphabetizing. I had an awesome staff, and they finished in a few hours.) We popped out to Jack-in-the-Box and got Brandon an Oreo cookie shake and food for other people, and then I went to work.

Umberto came and worked with me for the last 3 hours or so, which was cool. It never got truly busy, but we had clumps of people arriving here and there, and all went well. Someone headed out to Jack’s and brought us food, which was much needed. (Umberto easily could have gone back to the RV to make sandwiches, but…) Jack’s is turning into our food of choice this War. Sad but true. :-)

We finished by 12:30 a.m., came back, and slept hard. Unfortunately, I woke up with a massive headache. Bad enough to make me worrying about being sick a few times (although, thankfully, I never was). Advil didn’t help. Umberto had to get up early to do a bank run, and I just stayed in bed. I did find some Tylenol Allergy Sinus, though, and that eventually did the trick. Umberto came back, and I ate breakfast and we talked for a bit, and then we sort of fell back over on the bed… We dozed/slept until 12:30, when I heard a call on the radio for Umberto. Brandon needed a bank run done, so I threw on mundanes as well (the rule is two people go on every run, and must wear mundanes so as not to attract attention). Ceridwen had to run some errands, too, so we all went together. Yes, we stopped at Jack’s and bought food for at least five people, too. I was still groggy, but food and caffeine helped. Along with the headache, my other surprise was (apologies to those squicked by the female cycle) my period, a week and a half early. Festive. Blah. I think my body’s trying to sync with the full moon.

We’ve done a brief wander through merchants. Most are still setting up, though. We bought a couple of straw hats. It was lovely yesterday, but today got hot.

Umberto’s off at Gate now, and I’ll be heading there in about half an hour. It’s nice to relax in air conditioned comfort and regroup. Except I’m tempted to lie down and take another nap.

Much later. Did my six-hour stint at Gate, which was actually fun later in the evening, when nobody was coming in and we all sat in a circle and hung out. Good people, good friends.
