BAGHDAD BLAST
Here from our New York World New Headquarters in New York is Connie Chung.
CC: Happy Saint Patrick’s Day.
A car bomb rocked Central Baghdad today destroying the Mt. Lebanon hotel, several residences, and many shops and restaurants. The blast occurred just after 8 pm Baghdad time killing at least 27 and wounding more than 40. ‘The Green Zone’ including the headquarters of the American military and media was rocked but not destroyed in the blast. Al Jazeera, the middle eastern news service’s office was badly damaged in the explosion.
There is now a forty foot crater where the hotel and this tony Baghdad neighborhood once stood.
When American soldiers arrived at the scene they were repelled by civilian Iraqi’s, pelting the American’s with stones and shooting weapons.
The FOX news team (who were headquartered near by) were on the scene early and disguised themselves as Danish TV to avoid being attacked by civilians.
We have American General Leslie Halftrack, of Beetle Bailey fame, on the S.T. live line.

GH: Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, Connie.
CC: General, what do you make of this huge explosion in Baghdad today?
GH: Look, we caught Sadaam, he was a bad man. I think the world is a lot safer without him in power.
CC: What’s your reaction to the carnage today?
GH: We are on schedule to hand over power to the provisional government in just two months.
CC: What government? There is no government in place.
GH: Look, we caught Sadaam, he was a madman, we will have a government trained in time to hand over power to them, the terrorists will not win.
CC: General, what do you make of the civilians driving back the U.S. Army?
GH: There are small pockets of resistance. We are friends with the Iraqi people, they like that we are there. Look, we toppled statues, and liberated these same people that are killing us now. That always happens when you topple a madman regime. Sadaam was a bad guy, and the world and Iraq is happy he’s gone. We did that. I’m proud of our boys.
CC: We now have FOX news producer Don Alright on the liveline. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, Don.
DA: I don’t know. I am Danish. No speaky de engils.
