"In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed." Kahlil Gibran

here comes peter cottontail...

My granddaughter is coming up to the farm for Easter. She's only 9, so she'll be expecting the Easter Bunny.

That got me to remembering when my kids were little and how much they loved hunting Easter eggs.

First of course, they had to be colored...cups and cups of colored water with just a touch of vinegar....newspapers spread over the table to contain the mess...and arguments about who was doing the most eggs.

The chore of hiding the eggs was usually left to me. I remember when we lived in this old 3 story house..lots of hiding places. Trouble is, if all the eggs aren't found, a strange odor begins to permeate the house in a couple of weeks.

In order to avoid that little problem, this particular year I decided that all the eggs would be hidden outside.

Of course I had to wait til I was sure all the little darlings were asleep. While I was waiting for that to happen, I got in to my own jammies, put on my pink robe, slipped into my purple fuzzy slippers and put my hair up in pink rollers. I should mention that I sipped on a beer or two while I was doing all this.

Along about one in the morning, I decided it was time to play bunny. I packed the eggs in my basket and meandered outside to do the deed...basket in one hand, beer in the other.

Finding my way in the dark was no easy task...might have been had I opted for a flashlight instead of a beer..but what the hey.

About half way through my chore I look up and see red flashing lights in my driveway. The next thing I see is the light beaming from two flashlights heading my way.

I just stood there wondering what the heck was going on. A loud voice boomed: " Who are you and what are you doing out here this time of night?"

I looked around to see who they were talking to. When I looked back toward the light, I saw two rather large men in blue suits that looked an awful lot like police uniforms.

I musta been a sight to behold, pink hair rollers, pink bathrobe, purple fuzzy slippers..basket in one hand, beer in the other...because they took one good look and started laughing out loud.

I was stunned...I just looked em straight in the eye and asked:

"Haven't you ever seen the Easter Bunny?

No charges were filed.
