Project: Academic Catalog
Patron: Trinity
Medium: QuarkXpress 5.0
Status: Draft 1.0
Deadline: March 03

I'm pleased to say that I wrapped up the trinity catalog today -- at least enough so to call it a first draft. I'm sure there will be changes - but its time to get some feedback. We will see if this version is more readable than last year's.

Mostly it was a balancing act of whitespace and font size. I realized this morning I had added 10 pages to the catalog, when I should be trying to conserve space. I did break down and make the section pages "facing pages". It looks much better. Less clastrophobic. I also decreased the margins. I was able to shave off 5 pages and still keep the feel of my original design.

I'm concerned that the document is now in "designese" and not ledgeble to the person who will have to edit it when I'm done. I used some tables for the first time in Quark - and they are small and a pain unless you know what you are doing. I also set up a set of cascading index lists -- which is just asking to be misunderstood. I have to admit though, it is pretty cool.
