Project: Code of Ethics Booklet
Patron: uss
Medium: Pagemaker 7.0, Illustrator 10
Status: Thumbnails for cover, 1st draft for interior pages
Deadline: 2/21/2003

Nothing like a rush project to make you jump. So - in some respects this is good, because it means I'm designing again. And the irony of working on the uss code of ethics booklet is not lost on me. So I smile and edit. I initially created the basic pagemaker file, then moved on to the cover. LB and GL have very specific ideas about subject material, I think to try and speed up my design process. (Given, my last project took 4 months to complete, maybe they are right to worry) I do think they were starting to micro-manage a bit, but then I took the clip art away from them and asked them to find photos for me instead. This will save time as well, since we can skip the part where they reject the photos I chose.

Since this does have to be done next wednesday (the last day I'm in the office before the deadline hits) I do plan to use clip art for some of the design elements. If I was in school, I would probably be told to design my own - but since I've been in the field, I don't find the same kind of aversion to it. With that being said, my technology-loving boss has bought the new Big Book of Art. Excellent resource of not only clipart, but also photography sources and illustrative rasterized images. Yummy.

The printing aspect of it shouldn't be too complicated either. Process color on the cover, black on the inside. I'm thinking I can come up with a really nice cover and let the interior pages be somewhat boring. I did try to take from the last version for a lot of the formating. I figure it is legalize, so I do need to respect the current layout, to some degree. I'm looking forward to diving in on Monday to try and get some solid cover ideas down.

Project: Insert
Patron: UEC Labs
Medium: Illustrator 10
Status: Draft 5.0
Deadline: open

This is really the project that would never die. I think I have finally found a blend of graphic elements that both interact with the brochure and yet create a doucment that could stand on its own. I think I'm going to suggest that we go to print at the end of next week and see if anyone objects. I got somewhat non-commital sounds from my sponsor -- so maybe something needs to change. I don't know anymore. All I can say is its blue. :/

Project: paints/drawings
Patron: myself
Medium: pencil to start
Status: Future
Deadline: open

Had a couple of picture ideas this morning -- for lack of anything better to do I think I might pursue them a bit more. It's the first time in awhile that I had something to say. I thought I would first sketch them out, then maybe move them into paint. Maybe. See if I get to stage one. If I do this, I need to find a new home for my art table. I haven't really found the right nitch in the new house for it.
