This evening I've been going over my portfolio in anticipation for the weekend. Specifically, I don't want to worry about it while I'm on vacation.

I've managed to get it down to about 8-10 pieces, the majority of which are real work, not just student. Some of them have been previewed here, but my website is sadly behind my actual portfolio. My whole website needs to be revamped. But not before Wednesday.

Preparing my portfolio is always stressful because I don't know who my audience is. So I either rip it all out or stuff it all in. Fighting both these urges, I've tried to be rational about it, by placing the pieces by company, then by date. I still need to create up-to-date labels for most of the pieces, plus I have a good idea for a resume face-lift, but I'm just to warn out to work on it tonight. Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive.

Here are some updates on other projects I've been working on.

Project: logo creation
Patron: uec it
Medium: illustrator 10
Status: draft 2.0
Deadline: 5/31/03

This is the fish that got away. I'm back at the electronic drawing board with this particluar logo, mainly because the name has changed. Extended, actually. This could get nasty as the battle of the wordmark and the logo begins. What will we have as the final logo?

Some times I think, maybe this is another part of design that I need to learn. When to stand up. Not for passion, not for ego, but maybe for reason. Maybe I'm expected to bring to bear my massive graphic design skillz about logo function and use. Maybe there is a balance between listening to what the client really wants and telling the client what they actually need.

hrm...

The actual work hasn't been that bad. I've been working .ai of course, basically trying to break this down into a three letter logo, that is more "boxy." I decided to let it rest over night and see what the morning brings. A lot of the time, the longer I can leave something sit, the stronger the solution will be when I complete it. Got to love the N.

Project: CFP Brochure
Patron: TEEM
Medium: QuarkXPress 5.0
Status: Draft 1.0
Deadline: soonish, but no date. June?

TEEM has me working on a couple of small little jobs, prosumably until the next interterm can be organized. One of these jobs is a nice little pamplet about the Christian Foundations Program. Essentially Small Group courses that are theologically based. What's nice about this project is that I'm interpreting the current book design down to a three-fold letter size document. So the challenge is to make it look the same, with out just shrinking it down. This is something they could mail out if people were looking for more information. I think its a fun little project.

Project: General TEEM Brochure
Patron: TEEM
Medium: QuarkXPress 5.0
Status: Draft 1.0
Deadline: June 30 ish

Another little project is a general TEEM brochure that sort of gives an overview of what teem does. The challenge here is I'm working with preprinted documents. More over, they are legal size - very different to what I have been doing. But I think I figured out what I want to do with them. I've taken a large graphic and turned the inside into more of a wall poster, which also lists all the activites that TEEM is involved with. It needs a little tweaking, but I'm pretty excited about it. Actually stayed a bit late yesterday so I could get it down on paper.
