random notes from today

It's 9:30 p.m. and I will be asleep soon. Yes.

The divine miss m plays with her hair while falling asleep--twirling it, running her hands through it. Aww.

She is cutting the second tooth so she'll have a matched set. Her cries activate my flight reflex. I can't do anything for her beyond what I'm doing, and the inconsolable crying make me want to flee the building. But I won't. I'll just huddle in bed with some ice cream once she's finally asleep.

I am going to look into some supplemental babysitting for this summer in addition to what I already have. I'd still like to wait until fall to do a more permanent childcare arrangement, because I'm still nursing, but miss m is starting to get bored easily, so the days of her hanging out nearby while I work are quickly coming to an end. I'm feeling like a full-time stay-at-home mom AND a full-time work-outside-the-home mom all wrapped up in one haggard person. Thank God for Church Saint and Free to Be, who've been watching her each week, and the angels who come and clean our house every two weeks, otherwise... well, I don't know what!

The girls and I went to visit S, who was C's first child-care provider (and the best, I should say). She moved 45 minutes from here. It was so wonderful to see her. Her family is incredibly impressive. They moved here from Bolivia when their kids were young. S worked in a Burger King. Now they live in a lovely home with a swimming pool. They spoke no English when they arrived, and last week their daughter graduated from Harvard.

In the last year, S has been treated for colon cancer, received her citizenship (along with the rest of the family), and been in a car accident with her husband in which their car flipped over. After spending the night trapped in the car, waiting for help, they walked away unharmed. She told me the story of this "miracle" as her eyes leaked tears. She's a strong woman.

While at S's house, C was united with Sensory Sam, a toy she used to sleep with at S's house that had gotten lost. This meant much more to me than to C.

Finally, I am preaching on Sunday and have written not one word. Still, I am going to bed soon.

Like, now.
