Another day. It was COLD this morning. My little cat decided that the very best place to sleep was curled up against a human. And since I'm the only human around . . .

I'd gotten in rather bad habits over the holiday break--I'd been leaving the house later than usual, knowing that a whole bunch fewer people are fighting for parking spots. So this week I've made it there about 15 minutes earlier, and found a nice close spot to park. Of course, all this depends on there being no traffic problems. And, thanks to Katrina's depopulation effect, the traffic moves fairly briskly.

Some of our student workers reappeared today. And a couple more students came by to apply for jobs. The pay is barely above minimum, but the hours are flexible.

Today I got my very own number for disarming the alarm system at the library door. I wrote it down, but then forgot to bring it with me, so I called back there and now I can get in tomorrow. Hey--I have my own keys now too.

One of the "artifacts" I found in a box today was a Captain Planet shirt. A Newcomb alum is environmental vice president at Turner broadcasting, and Captain Planet is an environmentalist. She's also done a 14 video series and several others. I asked Susan how I should handle the videos and she said to make a comprehensive list of them and just leave them with the rest of the stuff for now. There's just so much that can be done, and with the Katrina stuff needing to be reboxed, the tapes can wait.

My trash got picked up today by somebody. Tuesday is my "day" but it was raining yesterday. And when it's raining the landfill is closed. Wednesday is one of the days for the big-time service--the one that frequently empties whatever they see, regardless of whether my mailbox has one of their tags. I don't know who did the honors today, but it got picked up.

A lot of people here are thinking about going to Chicago this weekend. Not me--I'll be watching the big game on my comfy couch in my warm house. (Probably with at least one cat on or near me.)

The shirt printers are at work already--they are printing up "NFC Champs" shirts for both the teams. I wonder if the "wrong" shirts get donated to some poor place where the people can't read English.

This evening I'll finish the latest J.D.Robb Eve Dallas mystery. Title is something like Birth in Death. It's another well-crafted one.

Tomorrow will be "brisk" again, and maybe wet. Yuck.
