Right--an IUD.

What made it an IUD?

Well, I fell asleep watching BookTV this morning, but it was after the review of an interesting-sounding book. I decided I already had too many books on my wanna list (and on various pieces of furniture) and as a result I can't recall the title.

That's just as well, because today's mail had a book I'd ordered recently, after seeing it cited in a Science Fact article in Analog. The title has the words Plows and Plagues in it, and the author is Rudiman. It's in the other room and I'm not sufficiently motivated to go get it and be more exact.

I started reading it and it is VERY interesting. The author, a climatologist, examines global warming historically and notes inconsistencies with the current "belief" that it's greenhouse gases from the Industrial Age on that are at fault. His thesis is that it began with settled agriculture. Based on the Analog article, and the blurb on the dust jacket, I think this is going to make sense. Best part is that he writes quite accessibly, i.e. for the non-technical readership.

I gave a degree of thought to getting the car inspected today, but by the time I'd gotten there it had closed. Monday for sure, after my doctor appointment at 7:30 AM. And I will have a book with me, of course. There are still lines of people whose stickers expired at the end of January. Be prepared.

(Anybody recall the Tom Lehrer song "Be Prepared--that's the Boy Scout Marching Song?" The "message" of the song is that a Boy Scout should always be prepared, in case a Girl Scout comes along.)

As I was channel surfing this afternoon I came across the show where someone's spending is totally out of control. This woman had 160 pairs of shoes--and she didn't get them at Payless! Plus closets full of other big-ticket clothes.

And that's that--can't think of anything else this IUD.
