Definitely not an auspicious day in the Greater New Orleans area.

About 3 AM a tornado touched down in Westwego (west of the city) while another one touched down very close to the Tulane campus, then hopped across the city to the Gentilly area (which was badly hit by Katrina). One death--FEMA trailers are not meant to fly, especially with a passenger inside.

Several schools closed, mostly because they were near the tornado areas and didn't have electricity.

I kept listening trying to determine exactly WHERE it had touched down--and whether I should go in to Tulane. My route seemed to be tornado-wreckage free, so I headed in. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but about 10 AM the power went off at the University and stayed off for about three hours. Tulane had cancelled classes (because there was nearby damage and they expected power outages) so the resident students were sort of ambling around. Two who work at the Women's Center Library settled down to studying. One of them headed for the nice comfy couch in the back.

Finally the power (and computers) came back on and I typed up the inventory of the boxes I've been working on. They are now finished and put away in their temporary "holding" area.

Tomorrow I plan on staying home and getting some more weeds pulled. It looks so much better where I HAVE pulled them, and there are no signs of regrowth.

I may also get my Escape's oil changed--and the car washed.

How's that for high excitement!!
