No, not the one-time pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies.
This Robin Roberts is an English prof. and assistant dean up the river at LSU. She specializes in science and other speculative fiction. And she was on campus today being interviewed for the directorship of the Newcomb Institute--formerly known as the Newcomb College Center for Research on Women. She wrote Gender and Science in Science Fiction, and I have read it. I went looking for it last night, but apparently either it is 1) hiding or 2) I gave it to YD. This fall her latest book will come out--a biography of Anne McCaffrey--a very favorite author of YD. Part of the academic interview process is giving a presentation to the "public." The Center director and another staff member practically dragged me there. Let's just say that I walked two or three times as far as I have in a loooong time. I shall probably feel it tomorrow. However, most of the walk was on nice level grass--a lot easier than what passes for a paved street at Tulane. I'm glad I went--she is a very interesting person and I hope she gets the job. Weather is definitely getting warmer--I'm using the "cool" function on my window unit a bit. The annual hurricane predictions came out today and the forecast is for a "busy" season this year. One set of levees was just found to have its pilings resting on sandy soil; that was one of the reasons the other levees failed. The United States Army Corpse of Engineers is now frantically working on emergency remedial measures. Who was it ended his broadcasts with " . . .and that's the way it is." Cuz that's the way it is.
