This was see the doc day. I guess I'm healthy as an old horse--I can't say neigh to that statement.
After I finished there I stopped at McD for a cup of coffee and one of their very yummy cinnamon thingies. While eating, I couldn't help but hear the spot on TV telling about the woman suing Vicotria's Secret because a spangle or something came loose from her fancy little panties and somehow cut her. (It was the Fox newscast--what do you expect.) I didn't catch just what she was doing when said shiny sharp thing popped loose, or where she was cut. But that item caught the attention of a bunch of people. I'd taken along a mind-candy book for waiting rooms. It's got four medium-length stories in it and I read two of them. One of them was definitely R-rated because of the highly imaginative--and detailed--sex in it. The other one I read also had some hot sex scenes, but it had a plot that was rather interesting. I'm not sure whether I'll bother reading the other two, especially if they're anything like the first one. It's okay to have torrid sex in a story, but there needs to be a plot other than "let's see how many different ways she can get laid." All of the stories have the supernatural as a "given." The only thing today that was not "as usual" was AT&T calling me. The phone is right next to me in the office, so I answered it. After a pause a voice responded. She used my first name (not the version I use) and was getting all set to (probably) give me the pitch about AT&T bundles. No thank you--I am quite happy with my current internet server, and if I had to pay for cable on top of their "bundle" I'm sure it would cost more. I've been debating for a while about giving up the landline phone service, even though I've had the number for 32 years. But I don't get any "real" calls on it any more--lots of pre-recorded political ads, but nothing worthwhile. I've changed (almost) all my records to the cell number. And tonight's call decided me. I shall be sure and tell AT&T just what triggered my move. The caller just didn't know how to handle it when someone went "off script." I know--the job doesn't pay squat, but they should train their answerers a bit better. And one of the things telephone solicitors need to learn to recognize is when a potential customer DOES NOT WANT WHAT YOU ARE SELLING. Give it up and go on to the next number. Enough of the ranting. Off-shore oil drilling: expanding oil drilling areas--whether it be wildlife refuges or off shore--is just postponing the problem of our petroleum greed. It's a band-aid when a transplant is needed. We, as a world, have been so used to oil that little has been done to develop alternate sources of energy--or conserve what we have. (Sorry--I still had a rant left in me.) Anyway--weather was nice today. The flood waters are starting to empty into the Mississippi. Tomorrow there will probably be afternoon storms to get even for today.
