It was a huge extended family affair.

YD and her husband hosted it. He has five children from a previous marriage, plus the daughter he and YD had.

Two of the five are married, and one has three kids and the other two. (So far.) The other three daughters are college age and older, and they all have boyfriends who came. (I think.)

And then the former wife and her assorted relatives came. (I ended up chatting a bunch with her mother.)

And OD and her kids. Her husband couldn't make it because he was on call. (He's a physician too.)

There were a LOT of people milling around the house, not to mention kids. The played on the trampoline and then messed around in the sand trap that borders their property.

Oh yeah--and the youngest (about 2) of the step-greats ran into the dining room--and the dining room table. Fortunately OD was there and did a quick assessment of the situation, and bandaged up the kid. On her recommendation they took him to a medical facility that was open. (This family lives in Lafayette so they don't have an area physician.) About an hour or so later they were back.

Present opening for the adults involved this crazy game in which people drew numbers, then got a gift. If the next person liked it, they could "steal" it. There was one round for the women and one for the men, and everyone seemed happy at the end. Upon reflection, it seems like an excellent way to keep the quantity of gifts down. They all had a lot of fun and by the time they'd finished trading etc. everyone seemed happy.

I got back home just about the time the cats were ready to send out a search party for me. They forgave me for being gone most of the day once I'd fed them.

And I know it's Christmas season because I can hear fireworks being set off. Just because they are bought for the New Year's celebration doesn't mean that the people wait till then to set them off.

Hope everyone else's day was a satisfactory as mine.
